Some of our clothes smell like dead people

With the mass of Vintage shops growing in Shoreditch we have decided to eat our words and introduce our American Vintage collection to our Spitalfields store.
We arnt exactly jumping on the band wagon by getting 3 year old sweatshirts and selling them for 60 quid and calling them vintage.
We have sent out our army of visionary stylists to hand pick some of the most iconic Vintage brands which sit along perfectly with our current brand list.
We have a massive range of  Ralph Lauren amazing oxford shirts, classic polos, and sweatshirts starting from just £20.
Along side it we have vintage Adidas, Puma and Nike sweatshirts, but my personal favorite is the amazing thick knitted Christmas jumpers from brands such as Abercrombie and Fitch.
So ok we might be giving in to the spirit of Shoreditch but we have some sick brands at some seriously good prices.

American Vintage Collection is now available in our Spitalfields branch
58 Commerical Street, E1 6LT  - 020 7247 8242

New brand G-Star

I would like to welcome you to our new brand G-Star raw. Ditchin' the heavily branded tees for something slightly more rugged, manly and fashionable. G-Star is going to be making a massive stamp on us this season. With director/actor/artist Vincent Gallo fronting their menswear campaign you know G-Star are trying to make it big with the edgier kids.
Heavily influenced by workwear with touches of military thrown into this winters collection it really stands out from our other brands.

I dont really need to talk about the strongest part of the collection which is the outerwear, honestly it speaks for its self.
Instead im going to talk about what originally put G-Star on the map.
The 3301.
The jeans created for anyone the fancy dandy or a gritty hip hop head, a rock chick or a city slickette, the 3301 is a democratic denim incarnate, designed to fit your chosen style, rather than to force you into what somebody else says is the trend of the moment.
Thats what makes me love G-Star they create clothes that on different people it totally changes.
You can check out the AW11 collection now here or in our City and Spitalfields Store.

its all about corduroy

It’s that time of year again; when we finally get to start layering on the hefty fabrics we’ve been looking forward to. Soft cashmere's, rugid tweeds, and  velvetty corduroys.

Brands such as Marshall Artist and Minimum have hit us with alot of corduroy this winter. From full cord trousers to subtle elbow pads it features everywhere this season, and we need to embrace our love for the heritage farmer style. Lots of burgundy's and forest green are around too, which really finishes off that smart winter look. so get your grampa-esque look on.

Therapy X Canterbury

Here at Therapy we have been working very closely with the guys over at Canterbury. We decided to join forces and throw a bloggers party in our Spitalfields store (58 Commercial Street) to help launch the brand into a whirl of shout outs on twitter and blogs.

After a very busy day of running around manic, and drinking way to many beers, setting up gift bags, and making a beautiful display of hummingbird bakery cupcakes next to the free bar. It was time to finally open the shop ready to get the bloggers of London in to see what we were all about.

ADIDAS - the micropacer

Adidas have officially released the 2011 version of the Micropacer running shoe - this time round using Gore-Tex.

For those of you who are unaware of what Gore-Tex is you can read about it like i did on wikipedia but its far to boring and complicated for my little head. So basically Gore-Tex is a waterproof/breathable fabric and is all about high proformance.

All the seams our taped on this incredible running masterpiece - matching the taped 3 stripes branding.

Therapys guide to Chinos

I'm sure you have noticed the shelves being filled with chinos this season. Its scary to finally step away from the skinny jean and get into something a bit more light and summery.
With every brand on our shelves bringing out their version of the chino it can be pretty daunting with the massive variety of fits and colours. So we are here to enlighten you with our knowledge and present  - THE THERAPY GUIDE TO CHINOS.

Developed in the mid 19th Century for the British and French military uniforms the light weight fabric was perfect alternative to denim.  The twill fabric made from 100% cotton has become incredible popular in recent years especially during the summer months, and with the increase of skinny jeans and the English sun the pair just does not go down well hence the search for a trouser which is fashionable yet appropriate for our unpredictable weather. The original colour ways tend to be a navy or camel, but with chinos hitting the fashion scene they have now developed massively for the modern market. Lets help you with a breakdown.

Behind the scenes with DWA

DWA were formed in 2008 a five piece experimental band based in South London. They interpret our unique cultural movement through an eerie kaleidoscope of sound and anxious lyricism.
With their debut single "6174" being an underground success with flattering reviews from The Guardian, Sunday Times,  and Dazed and Confused. They have had time to hone their sound and are ready to release their EP "Overcast up. Concrete Down" on the 4th of July 2011 with new East London underground label DEAD AT 27.
Therapy was asked to style the boys and attend the shoot for their EP.

Best Of British

Its been a pretty British week with the Queens birthday, St George's day and now the Royal Wedding round the corner we here at Therapy have been hanging out our Union Jacks and celebrating all things British.

Presenting you one of the most English brands around we start you off with Hunter.

Established in 1856, the brand hit it big when they were commissioned by the English war officer to construct a suitable boot for the conditions in the flooded trenches. When WWII came round Hunter stepped up to create that ultimate boot for the soldiers once again. The most important year for Hunter was 1955 when quite possible the greatest Wellington ever created and it definitely up there with the most iconic piece of footwear ever made, so in ’55 the original tall hunter was born and has been their best seller to this day.

In 1977 having supplied wellies to the Royal households, Hunter was awarded a Royal warrant from HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, this was then followed in 1986 by a royal warrant from HM The Queen providing great recognition for their work keeping some very important feet dry.

These day everyone who is anyone has been spotted wearing a pair of Hunters, especially now festivals have become bloody popular they are a necessity to have. Since they have been seen on the likes of Kate Moss and other fashion kids. They have mastered that market by doing collaborations with Jack Wills, Cowshed, and more recently Jimmy Choo.

Religion

Founded in the early 90’s Religion firmly rooted itself to early club culture; when music was chemically inspired and beliefs were publicly expressed on statement tees. Initially developed as a niche t-shirt range, Religion’s blend of anarchic graphics and commercial attributes has pushed the brand to the forefront of the fashion and media spotlight. It’s ‘no fear policy’ of experimenting with design techniques, washes and trends has given the brand its diverse appeal; distressed garments with a rock star edge.

Eleven Paris

Introducing Eleven Paris. Originated in Paris this brand has hit us big time with there oversized tees, checked shirts and the shorts and blazer suits in a range of pastels. We are a massive fan of em. With the brands slogan - “life is a joke” they know not to take themselves to fucking seriously.  Although Scandinavian street wear lays prominent in today’s market, Eleven Paris sits perfectly comfortable beside it. We’re really excited about this one.

The brand in sync with the facebook generation

Last summer was when i first walked into the Humor showroom, with barely any knowledge of the brand i was struck by the bright colours and patterns over from the far corner in a converted warehouse.
From that moment it was love at first sight.
Aimed at out slightly younger audience due to the edginess of the brand these guys are already a success in both our East End stores. The brand claim to be in sync with the facebook generation - laid back and over the edge.

The essence of Humor would be - sampling, silhouette and a confident international style.
But on the other hand this young Danish brand can't be labeled so easily. Its obvious they take their inspiration from electro music right down to the ever changing style from the kids on the streets The scene is set for a high degree of personal interpretation.

Humor describes themselves like lego - providing you with the bikes that allows one to create one's own identity thus never becoming boring, grey or predictable.

Its good to be bad - Adidas Star Wars collection

Last time I remember it was cool to like Star Wars was when The Phantom Menace was released in 1999 on Playstation, now nearly 10 years later they have done it again when hitting up one of the coolest brands of our time Adidas, to form one of the greatest collaborations yet.

On the Adidas site when describing the Conductors they said “Evil has never looked so cool” but to be honest, it has. Who ever wanted to be the good guy running around being a little pussy trying to get the girl and save the world? It was always way cooler to be the crazy one just blowing shit up, and also check out all the characters outfits and shit. Example Darth Maul he was sooo the coolest character (maybe it was just me being a kid and my favourite colour being red, I just loved his lightsaber.)

When checking out this seasons collections the trainers are always the sickest part. I feel they can go to extremes without making them to cringey.

album of the season

ok so the long awaited album star of love has finally been released on spotify by possible one of the greatest bands out this year - crystal fighters.
I first came across them in a dirty warehouse just off Curtain Road.  They were ment to be supporting peaches, but after their performance i couldn't care less who was on stage after -  everyone in that room was totally blown away.
Singin us their tunes like "i love London" and "In the summer" the crowd was manic.  Its been such a long time since i have seen a band with so much energy and stage presence. They closed with Xstatic Truth and being off my face me and the mates jumped the stage and started partying up with em.
I saw them again last Thursday, in the new club near old street XOYO apart from having the shittest drink selection, its actually a wicked venue and they blew us away yet again, this time they were joined by the fit girl backin singer.
So the album went live on Spotify yesterday and after listening to it on repeat for the last 9 hours,  i think it really is album of the season.
The best songs is easily "the plage" "swallow" and "at home" infact they are all fucking wicked.
so please please please go check out this album.

Crystal Fighters - Star of Love.

If its good for the Queen its good for us

Im a real sucker for all things English, where ether its waking up to a full English breakfast accompanied by a cuppa tea with milk and two sugars, then jumping into a black taxi to work, theres tons of little British clichés that I really do love and embrace, but I have become immune to as I have been bought up in London.
When it comes to British style I take pride in my hand made brogues, which were created in Northampton, with a waxed coat, and a check flat cap.
But one piece of footwear that just is British all over is the Hunter Wellies. This brand has so much history behind it, and is now the longest going brand we stock at designer therapy.

On your bike

Alright now living in Shoreditch everyone rides a bloody bike, and i always get Phil on my back as i cycle to work on my Pashley tube rider with a brooks seat he is constantly calling me a shoreditch twat. But finally my cycling is doing something good and on Sunday we went down to check out the Sky Ride London
Im guessing all you car drivers were probably getting slight road rage as you notised all the roads in central London were closed. But it was a nice day to get on and cycle round a bike filled central London.

We spotted the Adidas stand where they are a massive sponsor for the Great Britain Cycling Team  and more recently the Team Sky Pro Cycling.  So when you do jump on your bike,  do it in style yeah?

58 Commercial Street

Finally open and ready for Business.
Here some photos to show you our new Spitalfields store. With a whole new team from East End boys, Brazilian Girls and a tall Italian, we are trying a new approach. Opened in the heart of Spitalfields we are finding ourselves trying to hit the streets with our contemporary street brands in a place over flowing with vintage stores.

We are super happy with the outcome expect chunky metal chains for fixtures, raw brick walls, and 1920's train lights. Its a massive, and beautiful store that all of us have become very proud of.
We managed to pick up a few new brands along the way such as AMH, Marshall Artist, Happy Socks, Dr Denim, Cheap Monday, and more.

Eine Signs

When i was 15 my uncle, an Art Director took me to East London for the first time which was  his attempt to get me into photography and apreciate the creative side of London. We walked the dirty street of Hackney, and photographed everything and anything that i thought might make an interesting picture. This was the day i first learnt about street art, he pointed out pieces from Banksy, Sickboy, Faile and Eine.
I instantly fell in love with Eines work, and being so self obsessed i ran around trying to spell my name with the large capital letters stenciled over near enough every shutter in Shoreditch.

WeSC Neal street launch party.

As the boys spent  last Thursday checking out the delivery of DSQUARED2 up north i was sent to the opening party for WeSC (WeAretheSuperlativeConspiracy) new store on Neal Street, covent garden.
Tons of free drinks and some great bands and i thought it would be ok to take up the offer and check out what our new brand (coming soon) is all about.

We show up at around 7.30 and theres a stack of skateboards outside, surrounded by tattooed boys with jeans half way down their ass. The bands were really good, think n.e.r.d with girl backing singers, and they were well good.
After about four glasses of vodka and orange we checked out some of the gear, blew up balloons and listened to some bands.
Me not actually knowing much about the company apart from seeing every kid in east london with WeSC stamped on the side of their headphones, i was surprised to see how much clothes they do.
After doing a bit of cheeky research on their website i was then to discover they actually started off making clothes - "life after skate" a more developed style targeting people both within and outside of the skateboarding community.
They got a great range of check shirts, and graphic tees, but i really liked the jeans, looks like they mastered everything from baggy skater type jeans, to skinny they even got a great range of chinos.

Born In Canada, Made In Italy, Sold in East London!

We are stepping up our offerings in our Clearance section of our stores this Autumn starting with a collection of my personal favourite brand 'Dsquared2'. Of course I'm screaming like a biyatch inside at the prospect of saving up to 80% off original retail prices. For those of you that don't know, you'd need to sell a couple of kidney's or your least favourite child to Madonna to get anything close to enough money for a pair of Dsquared2 jeans so you too should GET EXCITED!!!

We will be offering a selection from the Fall/Winter 07 collection which was based on the American 'Street Fighting' scene. With shiny black leathers, blood splatted denims, Doberman Printed tee's and shoulder padded knits this collection was a turning point for Dsquared2 as it aimed to pull in a more Masculine market without neglecting an existing loyal fan base.

There is also a selection from the Fall/Winter 08 collection which was inspired buy the 'Ski Punk'. I'm not sure if Punks actually go skiing but if they do, they will be wearing low slung Skinny jeans with knitted polo neck sweaters and attached elbow pads, Over-sized nylon ski pants in bright yellows and reds coupled with slashed under-sized tee's and camo print bomber jackets. This collection from Dsquared2 was a lot less commercial and definitely had the 'Die Hard' Dsquared2 fan in mind as the consumer.

We start by selling a preview collection online which will hit next week, no doubt Tess will be slamming your 'Inbox' with a newsletter or 10 letting you know before it arrives. You will be able to buy it from our stores after Summer Sale ends in the Last week of August. I'll keep you all informed as time goes on... I for one can't bleedin' wait...

A Matter Of life Or Denim.

Ok. so now Phil has got all excited about one of his favourite brands. It's now my time to get excited and i quote scream like a 'biyatch'.

I cant describe my recent love for a good pair of jeans, the more i get involved with fashion the more i really look at quality and detail. A few years back i was buying jeans from topshop and having to  renew them every couple of months as the  shape would go and the colour would fade (not in a good way) and after getting my first pair of Dr denims after a while they began to grow even more beautiful with age a little like Helen Mirren, each rip and tear and fade would tell a little story and show my personality through my very own pair of jeans.

"I learn from the past but aim for the future" - AMH

I'm waiting around our middlesex store with Therapys buyer Phil,  fashionable late in walks Ashley Marc Hovelle - The face behind the upcoming brand AMH.
With a battered vintage suitcase filled with samples and sportin one of his own shirts this guy knows what hes doing.
He presents his garments and me and Phil are lovin em all,  and start picking items out that we want for our wardrobes.
In the past Hovelle has designed for the likes of Fred Perry, and Gabicci, and was a buyer for Urban Outfitters. So we are safe to trust this guys genius clothes.

Shane Meadows has done it again by creating a 4 part drama for channel four based on the characters from This is England three years on in 1986 with the world cup in mexico it follows the lives of Shaun, Woody and the others.  Now Meadows and the guys behind the scene take their clobber very seriously so expect a bunch of checkered shirts, Harrington Jackets, and slim fit polos.
Check out the teaser released on the channel four website.
Very excited - the show will be aired this September.

Sleepless nights and Dirty Girls - This is Religion

When reading the history on Religion, I mean not like Jesus and Allah and all that stuff I mean the Shoreditch based clothing line which has been compared to All Saints, I discovered it originated in the early 90s with influences from the early club culture. When I think of early 90’s club culture I think of Gio-Goi and Weekend Offender. This is more the dirty early 90’s grunge culture; think electric ballroom and distorted guitars while trippin out of mushrooms under Camden Lock. This is the club culture they have been inspired by.
With the brands anarchic graphics and commercial attributes the brand no wonder been spotted on the likes of Agyness Deyn, Ellen Page and Kate Moss. The brand has this diverse look about it with distressed garments, which give the look a real edge.
The whole thing about Religion is London, heavily influenced by lyrics, musical muses and London’s east end street culture.

So is your Dad still collecting Vinyl’s and woke up at 6am the other week to buy Roger Waters tickets? Then you need to check out the Lost Property range we have. Currently on sale its silly not to buy.
Based on the idea of recreating vintage t-shirts that old rock stars have been photographed wearing they really have done it well and picked their icons wisely.
This brand celebrates psychedelic punk, rock ‘n’ roll, glam rock, mod, heavy metal, and grunge.
So the t-shirt photographed was shot on the grunge legend Kurt Cobain in back in 1988.
This is for all the John Lennons, Joey Ramones, and Ian Hunters.

The Heritage Dad

So year after year we get to this point and think what to get our Fathers. I’ve done everything from mugs, to slippers to even getting a tattoo done for my dad. But this year now I’ve been working for Designer Therapy for half a year now I need to take advantage and pick out some new clobber for my Father.
My Dad is the kinda Dad that picks out the cheap shirts that lose shape and colour over one wash and are ridiculously cheap so he can just buy another one after one wear.
So im finally introducing him to what clothes to really wear and how he should appreciate the amount of time, effort and history behind each garment.
Guys now a days are really getting fashion conscience and know what colours, and shapes they need to fit them. You should be able to stick on a jumper and wear it with such style it could be your own skin.

Lets celebrate in style.

With the world cup only days away we are getting very excited in the Designer Therapy
offices!
We have been reminiscing about some of the greatest moments for England in the world cup -  From Gazzas tears, to thrashing  Germany 5 – 1 and never letting them forget, to Linekers hat trick in 1986. The date that no Brit could ever forget and likely the most important year in history - 1966
So as we love football just as much as our clothes we need to celebrate this. So as its the start of the world cup and we our offering an extra 25% off selected Fila items. Lets celebrate in style.

Look of the week

Ok so you might look like your about to take part in the Oxford vs Cambridge boat race but here at designer therapy that’s what we are going for this summer.

Chinos

This is going to be one item your see a lot this summer, these lightweight trousers make you feel like your old lecturer. But these are seriously making a come back but make sure you do them right. We have a selection for you at Designer Therapy photographed we have the Hilfiger Denim chino shorts which are going to be perfect for summer they are slim fit and feature an embroidered logo on the back. We also have the full length version in store.

Shirts

A slim fit full-buttoned shirt is a must this summer, now we got quite the selection from pastel colours, check, stripes and to denim. One of my favourites this season (which is very hard to pick) is the Polo Jean Company available in two colours white (photographed) and a very pale pink. This well made shirt features a front pocket on the chest and is thick enough so you wont see your nipples when it starts to get nippy. To achieve the look on a lovely summer day roll the sleeves up but don’t be lazy and fold em properly.

Hats

Caps were for when you were fifteen and ran around on the estates. Now Trilbys are for the summer, spotted on every art student around they must still cool. So now its summer we go for the twist and picked out the straw New Era trilby.

Sunglasses

We have a selection of Gio-Goi shades I went for the metal rimmed aviators which have the logo on the arms and are full UV protected. The other pair I loved this season is the Gio-Goi retro style aviators with the tortoiseshell finish.

Footwear

I must say the best flip-flop around hands down is the Havaianas, available in pretty much every colour under the sun and now the world cup range is also up for grabs. This means you can match them to anything you will be wearing. I think the bests ones to get your hands on are the Brazil logo which have the contrasting logo. If you need to dress up a bit and flip-flops arnt really suitable then check out the Nanny State Churchill deck shoes available in three different colours and in store now.

Some of the above items arnt yet online but are currently available in store. If you arnt available visit us in our shop then give us an email and we will be sure to help out with any enquiries.  sales@designertherapy.com

48 hours 48 thrills - introducing Weekend Offender

“We are scaffolders, we are accountants, we are nurses, we work in Burger King, we build your houses, we teach your children, we serve you fries with that. We wait in the same spot to get the same train at the same time to sit in the same seat.

At the weekend the chains are off. We become who we are, who we want to be. Who we wish we were. We are 48 hour party people. We separate ourselves from you. We drink, we smoke, we fight, we fuck, we get the bus home in the morning.”

This is the brand for the ordinary man working the 9-5 and living for the weekend, and they celebrate that.

The coat we cant live without.

We do love playing on that old English style these days, wherever it’s wellies and a waxed coat, or brogues and a trench coat. We keep stepping back in time when it comes to fashion, and attempting to revive all things British.
One of our favourite pieces from the 18th Century is the Pea coat originally worn by European sailors. The coats were made from heavy twill cloth (called pilot cloth/p cloth – this later became the name pea coat) the heavy fabric and wide lapels that could be turned up and buttoned was created to protect the sailors from the bad weather conditions while at sea.

The men that made Fila

Fila was created in 1911 in a town called Biella, originally created for the people of the Italian Alps but later evolved into a sportswear brand. In 1973 it made a debut as an elite performance brand. Fila have created some groundbreaking changes within sportswear such as introducing the cotton rib to tennis clothing, and it even created the first ever velour tracksuit, we arnt quite sure if we should thank them for that but still they were the first to do it!

knitwear - why we can not live without it

I was never a fan of knitwear before. I was always a casual track tops with a pair of jeans and Adidas superstars or something. Since working for Designer Therapy it has allowed me to enter the love for my knitwear, from Franklin and Marshall V-necks to the fine cashmere from Fila Gold, a favourite this season must be from Gabicci the bright electric blue with harlequin patterned front takes you right back to the late 70’s I put it on and instantly feel like my dad. It’s wicked from the finest cotton down to the perfect point of the mid V. Even the glistening silver from the iconic G on the chest. It really was love at first site.

Now dress it up or down knitwear gives you the freedom to do as you please, walk out with a baby pink knit like the young Essex boys or stick some patches on the elbows of your brown knitted cardigan. It’s all about how it’s worn, and with confidence and subtlety its for sure the item I will now never leave the house in.
